Saturday Day Trip: Santa Barbara, Again!
A few weekends ago we were looking to just get away for the day, and what do you know, we ended up in Santa Barbara. Okay I get it, I go to Santa Barbara a lot. It's only one of my favorite destinations, a mere 45 min drive from my home. We of course started in the Starbucks drive-thru to get a gigantic coffee to start our day, then headed up the coast for an adventure.
First up, we headed to Paseo Nuevo for some retail therapy. We hit some of our favorites including Nordstrom, Gap and Cotton On, and definitely loaded up on some great new items. After wandering around a bit, it was time to find some food, so we headed to one of our favorite local spots, the Santa Barbara Public Market. For those who haven’t been, the public market has a variety of vendors inside to choose from. You can sit for a meal, or grab something to go. Grab a glass of rose, or a cupcake. They have some great options inside and it’s always a great place to visit. We opted for sushi from Big Eye Raw Bar and a soba noodle salad from Flagstone Pantry. So good and not too heavy on a warm summer day. The area around the public market is very walkable, so I always encourage people to explore around a bit, to see what you stumble upon.
Can I just say, these Topshop shorts are AMAZING. So comfy and flattering. Perfect high waisted shorts for summer.
Next, it was time to change locations and head over to the Funk Zone, which is this great artsy area closer to the waterfront. We parked on a side street and walked all the way down to the water and back to the Funk Zone to check out some of the hot spots. Our main destination for the afternoon was Test Pilot, a tiki themed bar nestled right in the middle of the Funk Zone. They opened at 2pm, and we got a great table by the bar. We ordered the Test Pilot (house rum blend, clove, citrus, bitters, absinthe foam) and the Buccaneer (bourbon, coconut, rooibos, passion fruit, citrus, cacao, nutmeg and served in a coconut!!) which were both excellent, and packed quite the punch! The atmosphere is great, the bartender was friendly and knowledgeable and it’s the perfect escape to just sit and enjoy a cocktail. Tiki bars are one of my favorite things, especially when they are done right, and I can’t wait to go back!
