Night Out: The One Up
As you walk off of Ventura Blvd and into The One Up, you’re suddenly transported into this throwback gastropub style bar that offers a great atmosphere and free classic video games in the back room.
With a neon sign declaring “We are all pretty bizarre, some of us are just better at hiding it, that’s all” you know you are in for a good time.
The layout of the restaurant in bar is small, but very efficient. The room is anchored by a bar and seating areas are on two levels with the gaming level all the way in the back. They have great light fixtures that add a certain industrial, yet cozy feel. The food here is uniquely nostalgic in that they use elements that we remember from our childhood like Captain Crunch, Tater Tots, Corn Dogs and Twinkies. Be warned, this place is the ultimate in cheat meals – so come prepared to enjoy yourself and just don’t think about the calories for one night.
The One Up has a great Happy Hour that goes ALL DAY on Monday’s and from 4-7pm every other day. All bites are just $5 each, as well as beers, wine and well drinks also for $5! We were here again last night for the all-day happy hour and ordered the Cap’n Crunch Wings (sweet and crunchy, served with your own personal hot sauce – YUM), Danger Dogs (mini hot dogs, double YUM), and the New Mexican Tacos.
The back room is perfect for some after dinner fun. Whether you’re a diehard gamer (which is not something that even remotely describes me), or just someone looking to play a few rounds of PacMan. It’s a really good time.
Overall, The One Up is a great addition to the Ventura Blvd coalition of restaurants and to the valley nightlife scene.
