Sunday Day Trip: Santa Monica

It’s time for another weekend adventure roundup! This time, we traveled 40 minutes to Santa Monica on the only day without rain this past weekend.

First stop, Montana Avenue. Montana is a great collection of restaurants, stores and coffee shops that range from national brands to small businesses. We found a metered spot (free on Sunday!) and started our loop around the block. I’m a big time window shopper, so this is a great way to get out and walk and get a little inspiration. It’s also great people watching as you pass the small coffee shops, bustling eateries and busy storefronts.

After over an hour of wandering around, we were developing quite the appetite. Next up, we headed over to Chomp Eatery on Santa Monica Blvd. I had been seeing the colorful grilled cheese on social media and I just had to try it! We were able to find parking right out front in the lot, and headed in to check it out. They have a small inner space, but it is kept up nicely and very clean. You order at the counter and can choose from a wide selection of hand-crafted juices and drinks in a large case. I opted for the Strawberry Lemonade in the lightbulb glass (took it home and going to use it as a vase!) and the Cupid Melt, which is a specialty grilled cheese with pink and purple cheese (just for February, but I'm sure they'll have more of these in the future!) The lemonade was excellent with just the right amount of tartness and everything we got was made to order and fresh. I mean seriously, who doesn’t want to try a colorful grilled cheese sandwich? It’s like transporting back to your childhood for just a few moments.

Up next we headed over to Santa Monica Place to take a walk around. If you park in their lot, the first 90 minutes are free and typically that’s about all the time I need. We did a quick walk-through of the shops, and made a quick stop in the Disney Store before heading out. We took a lovely drive down PCH and headed to Palisades for a coffee stop. I was clearly in the mood for colorful food and drinks that day, because I decided to try the Matcha Pink Drink on the secret menu at Starbucks. This is part strawberry refresher, coconut milk and matcha.

SO refreshing! We headed back toward home for the afternoon, and got to see the last moments of sunshine as the rain began coming back.
